Charles Ellicott Commentary 1 Chronicles 26:2

"And Meshelemiah had sons: Zechariah the first-born, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Jathniel the fourth," — 1 Chronicles 26:2 (ASV)

And the sons of Meshelemiah were. —Rather, And Meshelemiah had sons, namely, Zechariah the firstborn. (See 1 Chronicles 9:21, and 1 Chronicles 26:14 below.) The seven “sons” of Meshelemiah-Shallum represent seven guilds of porters.
