"Out of the spoil won in battles did they dedicate to repair the house of Jehovah." — 1 Chronicles 26:27 (ASV)
Out of the spoils won in battles. —The verse is an explanatory parenthesis. Literally, Out of the wars, and out of the spoils; a hendiadys, i.e., out of the spoils of war.
To maintain the house. —In 2 Kings 12:8 the verb means to repair or restore. (Nehemiah 3:7.) Here to make strong appears to be the idea. (Compare to 1 Chronicles 29:12.)
