"Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, Peullethai the eighth; for God blessed him." — 1 Chronicles 26:5 (ASV)

For God blessed him. — Compare 1 Chronicles 13:14, where it is said, God blessed the house of Obed-edom.

His sons’ names are all testimonies to his thankful recognition of the Divine favour:

  1. The firstborn is Shemaiah, Jah has heard (namely, the prayer for offspring).
  2. Jehozabad, Jah has bestowed, is the second.
  3. Joah, Jah is a kinsman, the third.
  4. Sacar, reward (Genesis 15:1), is the fourth.
  5. Nethaneel, or Nathanael (Dositheus, Dorotheus, Deusdedit), God has given, the fifth.
  6. Ammiel, a kinsman is God, the sixth.
  7. The seventh, Issachar, there is a reward.
  8. The eighth, Peulthai (Hebrew, Pĕullĕthai), work or recompense of Jah.
