SCRIPTURE

"The twelfth [captain] for the twelfth month was Heldai the Netophathite, of Othniel: and in his course were twenty and four thousand." — 1 Chronicles 27:15 (ASV)

Heldai (living)—The same as “Heled” (life) in 1 Chronicles 11:30.

Of Othniel.—Of the clan so called. (Compare to Joshua 15:17.) His town was Netophah, near Bethlehem.

Of the whole list of twelve generals, it is noticeable that eight—namely, the first, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, eighth, tenth, and twelfth—belonged to the royal tribe of Judah. Of the remaining four, the second perhaps, and the ninth certainly, was a Benjamite; the seventh and eleventh were Ephraimites.
