Charles Ellicott Commentary 1 Chronicles 5:24

"And these were the heads of their fathers` houses: even Epher, and Ishi, and Eliel, and Azriel, and Jeremiah, and Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, mighty men of valor, famous men, heads of their fathers` houses." — 1 Chronicles 5:24 (ASV)

And these were the heads ... (name lost) Epher, and Ishi ... —Of these seven “valiant warriors, men of renown, heads for their clans” nothing further is recorded. The meagre memorial of their names has at least this value: it proves that abundant materials for the history of Israel once existed, of which our canonical books have preserved authentic fragments.
