SCRIPTURE

"And in Gibeon there dwelt the father of Gibeon, Jeiel, whose wife`s name was Maacah: and his first-born son Abdon, and Zur, and Kish, and Baal, and Ner, and Nadab, and Gedor, and Ahio, and Zechariah, and Mikloth. And Mikloth begat Shimeam. And they also dwelt with their brethren in Jerusalem, over against their brethren. And Ner begat Kish; and Kish begat Saul; and Saul begat Jonathan, and Malchishua, and Abinadab, and Eshbaal. And the son of Jonathan was Merib-baal; and Merib-baal begat Micah. And the sons of Micah: Pithon, and Melech, and Tahrea, [and Ahaz]. And Ahaz begat Jarah; and Jarah begat Alemeth, and Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri begat Moza; and Moza begat Binea; and Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son. And Azel had six sons, whose names are these: Azrikam, Bocheru, and Ishmael, and Sheariah, and Obadiah, and Hanan: these were the sons of Azel." — 1 Chronicles 9:35-44 (ASV)

A duplicate of 1 Chronicles 8:29–38. The genealogy of Saul seems to be repeated, according to the chronicler’s habit (compare 1 Chronicles 6:4 and following with 1 Chronicles 6:50 and following; 1 Chronicles 7:6 and following with 1 Chronicles 8:1 and following), as a transition or introduction to something else, namely, the account of that king’s final ruin in 1 Chronicles 10:0. The present list is identical with the former, so far as it extends (1 Chronicles 8:39–40 is missing here), but is, on the whole, in better preservation, supplying, as we have seen, several omissions in the other copy. Only the name of Ahaz has been omitted (1 Chronicles 9:41). The correspondence of the two lists appears to be too exact to justify an assumption of different original sources; but the chronicler may have found the repetition already existing in the principal document from which he drew his materials.
