SCRIPTURE

"For to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom; and to another the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit:" — 1 Corinthians 12:8 (ASV)

For to one is given by the Spirit.1 Corinthians 12:8–10 illustrate the previous statements regarding the varieties of endowments for the purpose of the manifestation of the Spirit, while still emphasising the unity of their origin, namely, the Holy Spirit. The following division (Meyer's) of the gifts mentioned here is perhaps the best available classification. In Greek, the genera (so to speak) are distinguished by the word hetero, and the species by the word allo; both words are translated in English by the single word 'another':

  1. Gifts that relate to intellectual power:
    1. The word of wisdom.
    2. The word of knowledge.
  2. Gifts that depend on a special energy of faith:
    1. The faith itself.
    2. Operating in deeds:
      1. Healings.
      2. Miracles.
