"For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified." — 1 Corinthians 14:17 (ASV)

For thou verily givest thanks well.—It is implied here that speaking in a tongue was, regarding an individual, an acceptable mode of worship, and it is its public use that the Apostle addresses throughout this entire passage.
