Charles Ellicott Commentary 1 Corinthians 14:34

"let the women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but let them be in subjection, as also saith the law." — 1 Corinthians 14:34 (ASV)

But they are commanded to be under obedience.—Better (as in some of the best manuscripts), but let them be under obedience. The original precept laid down in Genesis 3:16 teaches this. “The law” stands for the Old Testament generally.
