Charles Ellicott Commentary 1 Corinthians 7:23

"Ye were bought with a price; become not bondservants of men." — 1 Corinthians 7:23 (ASV)

You are bought with a price . . .—Better, You were bought with a price; therefore, do not become slaves of men. This carries on the idea of freedmen of the previous verse. With a great price—even the blood of Christ—they have been purchased by Him as freedmen. Therefore, do not become slaves of men—do not yield to their views by seeking to change the condition of your calling.
