"Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: but I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be trustworthy." — 1 Corinthians 7:25 (ASV)

Now concerning virgins ...—A new subject is introduced here—namely, the duty of parents regarding their young unmarried daughters. Ought they to give them in marriage? The answer is covered up to 1 Corinthians 7:38.

On this subject, the Apostle states that he has no actual command from Christ. It was a point to which our Lord had not directly alluded in His teaching, and so the Apostle gives his opinion as one who has obtained mercy to be a faithful instructor. The contrast here is not between Paul inspired by the Lord and Paul not inspired, but, as in 1 Corinthians 7:12, between Paul quoting the words of Christ and Paul himself instructing as an inspired Apostle.
