"Then said Jonathan, My father hath troubled the land: see, I pray you, how mine eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey." — 1 Samuel 14:29 (ASV)
My father has troubled the land. —In other words, “My father’s ill-considered vow has done grave harm to us in Israel. Had he not weakened the people by preventing them from taking the necessary refreshment, our victory would have been far more complete. Utter exhaustion has prevented us from following up our victory.”
