"And it came to pass on the morrow after the new moon, [which was] the second [day], that David`s place was empty: and Saul said unto Jonathan his son, Wherefore cometh not the son of Jesse to meat, neither yesterday, nor to-day?" — 1 Samuel 20:27 (ASV)

The next day. —David’s continued absence on the second day of the feast awoke Saul’s suspicion, and he asked his son, who was sitting by him, the reason for his friend’s absence, aware that no accident connected with ceremonial defilement would keep him away for two consecutive days.
