Charles Ellicott Commentary 1 Samuel 9:18

"Then Saul drew near to Samuel in the gate, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, where the seer`s house is." — 1 Samuel 9:18 (ASV)

In the gate. —The Septuagint (Greek Version) here reads, in the midst of the city. It is not improbable that this is the original reading, it being very possible for a scribe to write the Hebrew word “gate” for “city.”
