SCRIPTURE

"And when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So all Israel departed unto their tents." — 2 Chronicles 10:16 (ASV)

And when all Israel saw. — Now all Israel had seen. The book of Kings states: And all Israel saw. The chronicler makes a new start. (The word “saw” is missing in very many Hebrew manuscripts, and in the Septuagint, Vulgate, Targum, and some Hebrew editions.)

Answered.Returned the king — namely, a word, which the book of Kings supplies.

Every man to your tents, O Israel. — Literally, A man (’ îsh) to your tents, etc. The word “man” is probably spurious, being due to a repetition of the letters of the preceding proper name Jesse (Hebrew, Yishai or Ishai). The book of Kings, the Septuagint, and the Vulgate are without it, but the Syriac has it.

See to your own house — that is, govern Judah, your own tribe. The Vulgate has, pasce domum tuam.
