SCRIPTURE

"Now the destruction of Ahaziah was of God, in that he went unto Joram: for when he was come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom Jehovah had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab." — 2 Chronicles 22:7 (ASV)

And the destruction of Ahaziah was of God. — Literally, And from God came the downtreading of Ahaziah, so that he went to Joram. The coincidence of the visit with Jehu’s rebellion revealed the working of Divine providence. Thus it happened that the three chief representatives of the house of Ahab—Joram, Jezebel, and Ahaziah—were involved in one catastrophe of ruin; Athaliah, however, escaped for the time. “Downtreading” (tebûsah) occurs here only. (Compare mebûsah,Isaiah 22:5.)

For.And.

With Jehoram. — So 2 Kings 9:21.

Against Jehu. — Rather, unto Jehu. The passage in Kings (2 Kings 9:21) states, to meet Jehu.

Whom the Lord had anointed. — Compare 1 Kings 19:16; 2 Kings 9:1–10.
