"Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king hearkened unto them." — 2 Chronicles 24:17 (ASV)

Came the princes ... and made obeisance to the king. —As if asking for a favor. What their petition was is evident from the context (2 Chronicles 24:18). They sought the royal sanction for the idolatrous forms of worship, for which they longed.

Then the king hearkened unto them. —Compare the influence of the young nobles with Rehoboam (2 Chronicles 10:8).
