SCRIPTURE

"Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, behold, are they not written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel?" — 2 Chronicles 25:26 (ASV)

First and last. The former and the latter. The chronicler adds his usual formula.

Behold, are they not written. — The Hebrew is faulty here. Behold, they are written is the customary phrase in the Chronicles (2 Chronicles 20:34; 2 Chronicles 24:27), while are they not written is characteristic of Kings. In the Hebrew text here, the two phrases are blended.

Some MSS., and the Syriac, Vulgate, and Arabic, read, Behold, they are written. But it is possible that hinnâm (“behold they”) is a corruption of hçm (“they”) in this instance, and that the reading of Kings should be followed, with other Hebrew manuscripts and the Targum.
