"And Uzziah prepared for them, even for all the host, shields, and spears, and helmets, and coats of mail, and bows, and stones for slinging." — 2 Chronicles 26:14 (ASV)
Throughout. —That is, for all the army; this is an apposition.
Shields, and spears (rĕmâchîm, “lances”), and helmets, and habergeons (shiryônôth, “coats of mail,” “cuirasses”).—These were for the heavy-armed.
“Habergeon” is an old English word, meaning armour for the neck and breast.
Bows, and slings ... stones. —These were for the light-armed. (See margin.)
Slings to cast stones. —Literally, stones of slings (the le is the mark of the accusative). They are mentioned to show that the equipment was complete.
