SCRIPTURE

"And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against Jehovah, this same king Ahaz." — 2 Chronicles 28:22 (ASV)

AHAZ ADOPTS THE SYRIAN IDOLATRY, AND CLOSES THE TEMPLE (2 Chronicles 28:22–25; compare to 2 Kings 16:10–18).

In the time of his distress. At the time when he (Tiglath) oppressed him, i.e., at the time when Ahaz went to Damascus to do homage to the Assyrian monarch (2 Kings 16:10), probably in reluctant obedience to a peremptory mandate.

Did he trespass ... Ahaz.He dealt yet more unfaithfully towards Jehovah, he, king Ahaz. The subject is emphatically repeated: “he, king Ahaz,” who had already been sorely chastised, sinned yet more. Or “he, king Ahaz,” the notorious apostate.
