"And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against Jehovah, this same king Ahaz." — 2 Chronicles 28:22 (ASV)
AHAZ ADOPTS THE SYRIAN IDOLATRY, AND CLOSES THE TEMPLE (2 Chronicles 28:22–25; compare to 2 Kings 16:10–18).
In the time of his distress. — At the time when he (Tiglath) oppressed him, i.e., at the time when Ahaz went to Damascus to do homage to the Assyrian monarch (2 Kings 16:10), probably in reluctant obedience to a peremptory mandate.
Did he trespass ... Ahaz. — He dealt yet more unfaithfully towards Jehovah, he, king Ahaz. The subject is emphatically repeated: “he, king Ahaz,” who had already been sorely chastised, sinned yet more. Or “he, king Ahaz,” the notorious apostate.
