SCRIPTURE

"Doth not Hezekiah persuade you, to give you over to die by famine and by thirst, saying, Jehovah our God will deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?" — 2 Chronicles 32:11 (ASV)

Does not Hezekiah persuade you?Is not Hezekiah inciting you? (2 Kings 18:32; 1 Chronicles 21:1). The verb recurs in 2 Chronicles 32:15.

To give over yourselves ... by thirst. In order to deliver you to dying ... by thirst. A softening of the coarse expression recorded in 2 Kings 18:27. Esarhaddon in the record of his Egyptian campaign uses similar language: “siege-works against him I constructed, and food and water, the life of their souls, I cut off.”
