"And he built up the altar of Jehovah, and offered thereon sacrifices of peace-offerings and of thanksgiving, and commanded Judah to serve Jehovah, the God of Israel." — 2 Chronicles 33:16 (ASV)

Repaired. —Hebrew, built, i.e., rebuilt. Ewald concludes from this that Manasseh had removed the altar of burnt offering; and from Jeremiah 3:16 that he destroyed the ark of the covenant. (Some Hebrew manuscripts, and many editions read prepared instead of built; but the Syriac and Arabic have the latter word, which is doubtless right.)
