"In the plain of the Jordan did the king cast them, in the clay ground between Succoth and Zeredah." — 2 Chronicles 4:17 (ASV)
In the clay ground. —Hebrew, in the thickness of the ground — that is, in the stiff or clayey soil. Vulgate, “in argillosa terra.” For ‘ăbî, “thickness,” see Job 15:26. Kings has ma‘ăbeh, which occurs nowhere else.
Zeredathah. —Kings, Zârĕthân (Joshua 3:16). Zĕrçdâthâh means towards Zĕrĕthâh (1 Kings 11:26). The two names denote the same place.
