Charles Ellicott Commentary

Charles Ellicott Commentary
"Now, O my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent, unto the prayer that is made in this place." — 2 Chronicles 6:40 (ASV)
THE PERORATION.
Let, I plead with you, thine eyes be open. —Compare 2 Chronicles 6:20 (see above), 2 Chronicles 7:15, and 1 Kings 8:52.
And let thine ears be attent. —Attentive, listening (qas‘s‘ûbôth). The same phrase recurs in 2 Chronicles 7:15, which is, in fact, a repetition of the whole verse in the shape of a Divine promise. Qas‘s‘ûbôth occurs elsewhere only in the late Psalm 130:2.
The prayer that is made in this place. —See margin. “The prayer of this place” is a strange phrase, occurring only here and in 2 Chronicles 7:15.
