Charles Ellicott Commentary
"But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;" — 2 Chronicles 7:19 (ASV)
But. — And. Kings omits this, but emphasizes the verb: If you will turn, or, if turn you will.
The order of words in the Hebrew implies that û-bnêkem, “and your children,” has fallen out of the text: And if you turn, you and your children. Kings, Syriac, and Arabic support this reading here. Kings adds, From after me.
And forsake. —Kings has and keep not. This reading is also found in Syriac and Arabic.
