Charles Ellicott Commentary 2 Corinthians 6:18

"And will be to you a Father, And ye shall be to me sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty." — 2 Corinthians 6:18 (ASV)

And will be a Father to you...—Again we have, as it were, a mosaic of citations: I will be a Father... from 2 Samuel 7:14; Sons and daughters from Isaiah 43:6; says the Lord Almighty from the Greek of 2 Samuel 7:8. It may be noted as not without interest that the Greek word rendered “Almighty” here, and “Omnipotent” in Revelation 19:6, is commonly used in the LXX. as an equivalent for the Hebrew “Lord of Hosts” or “Lord of Sabaoth.”
