SCRIPTURE

"And again he sent unto him another captain of fifty and his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus hath the king said, Come down quickly." — 2 Kings 1:11 (ASV)

Again he also sent. —Although he had heard what had happened to his former envoys.

He answered. —The Septuagint (LXX) has “went up” (way-ya’al for way-ya’an), as in 2 Kings 1:9; 2 Kings 1:13.

And said. —Hebrew: spoke. Yet some manuscripts (MSS), and the Vulgate, Syriac, and Arabic versions, follow the Authorized Version.

Thus has the king said. —Or, commanded (’âmar).

Come down quickly. —“Impudentior fuit hic ... priore; tum quia audito ejus supplicio non resipuit, tum quia auxit impudentiam addendo ‘Festina’” (a Lapide). (But see the note on 2 Kings 1:12.)
