Charles Ellicott Commentary 2 Kings 12:8

"And the priests consented that they should take no [more] money from the people, neither repair the breaches of the house." — 2 Kings 12:8 (ASV)

And the priests consented. —No doubt they made some such explanation as is suggested in the Note on 2 Kings 12:7, by way of clearing themselves from the suspicion of fraud; after which, they agreed to resign all connection with the business.
