Charles Ellicott Commentary 2 Kings 2:13

"He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of the Jordan." — 2 Kings 2:13 (ASV)

The mantle of Elijah. —See 2 Kings 2:8, and compare 1 Kings 19:19. The badge of the prophet’s office was naturally transferred to his successor.

The bank. —Literally, lip. So χεῖλος is used in Greek (Herodotus 2.70).
