SCRIPTURE

"Because Manasseh king of Judah hath done these abominations, and hath done wickedly above all that the Amorites did, that were before him, and hath made Judah also to sin with his idols;" — 2 Kings 21:11 (ASV)

And has done. —The and is not in the Hebrew, though the Syriac and Arabic supply it. It is not needed, for the sense is, namely, because he has done wickedly, etc.

The Amorites. —A general designation of the native races of Canaan, just as in Homer Achaeans, Danaans, etc., in turn represent the Greeks. (See Amos 2:9, Ezekiel 16:3; and compare to 1 Kings 21:26.)
