SCRIPTURE

"Therefore, behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again." — 2 Kings 22:20 (ASV)

Your grave. —So some manuscripts and the old versions. But the ordinary Hebrew text, your graves, may be right, as referring to the burial-place formed by Manasseh, which would contain a number of chambers and niches (2 Kings 21:18).

In peace. —These words are limited by those which follow: your eyes shall not see all the evil, etc. Josiah was slain in battle, as the next chapter relates (2 Kings 23:29); but he was spared the greater calamity of witnessing the ruin of his people.
