Charles Ellicott Commentary
"So she went, and came unto the man of God to mount Carmel. And it came to pass, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to Gehazi his servant, Behold, yonder is the Shunammite:" — 2 Kings 4:25 (ASV)
To Mount Carmel. — Elisha, then, must have resided there at least occasionally. (Compare 2 Kings 4:9.) Carmel probably served as a fixed center of prophetic teaching for the north, as Gilgal, Bethel, and Jericho for the south. (Compare also Elisha’s sacrifice there, 1 Kings 18:31 and following.)
Far off. — The same word (minnèged) as to view (2 Kings 2:7; 2 Kings 2:15).
Shunammite. — Syriac, Shulamite.
