Charles Ellicott Commentary
"And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down; and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trod her under foot." — 2 Kings 9:33 (ASV)
Throw her down. — Compare Note on 1 Chronicles 13:9.
Was sprinkled on. — Spurted onto.
He trod her under foot. — All the versions have they — that is, the horses — trod. Thenius supposes they were excited by the blood being sprinkled upon them. But “he” — that is, Jehu — “trod her under foot,” plainly means, he drove over her fallen body. Ewald goes beyond the text in stating that Jehu spurned her with his own feet. (For the verb, compare 2 Kings 7:20.)
