"And David sent to Joab, [saying], Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David." — 2 Samuel 11:6 (ASV)
Send me Uriah. —David proposed in this way to cover up his crime. By calling for Uriah and treating him with marked consideration, he thought to establish a friendly feeling on his part, and then by sending him to his wife to have it supposed that the child, begotten in adultery, was Uriah’s own.
