"And they buried Abner in Hebron: and the king lifted up his voice, and wept at the grave of Abner; and all the people wept." — 2 Samuel 3:32 (ASV)
In Hebron. — The family home, and therefore the natural burial place, of Abner was at Gibeon (1 Chronicles 8:29; 1 Chronicles 8:33; 1 Chronicles 9:33); but this may by then have been under Ish-bosheth’s control, and, at all events, a burial in the royal city of Hebron was more honourable and a more marked testimony to the grief of David.
