Charles Ellicott Commentary 2 Samuel 7:15

"but my lovingkindness shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee." — 2 Samuel 7:15 (ASV)

As I took it from Saul. —He and his house were utterly and permanently set aside; David’s descendants will be punished for their sins, yet shall never be forgotten, and shall, ultimately, result in one who shall conquer sin and death forever.
