SCRIPTURE

"And all that dwelt at Lydda and in Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord." — Acts 9:35 (ASV)

All that dwelt at Lydda and Saron.—The latter name indicates a district rather than a town. The presence of the article with it, and its absence from Lydda, indicates that men spoke of "the Saron"—the plain—the woodlands (so it is rendered by the LXX.: 1 Chronicles 5:16; 1 Chronicles 27:29; Song of Solomon 2:1; Isaiah 35:2)—as we speak of "the weald." It lay between the central mountains of Palestine and the Mediterranean, and was proverbial for its beauty and fertility (Isaiah 33:9; Isaiah 65:10).
