Charles Ellicott Commentary Amos 3:8

"The lion hath roared; who will not fear? The Lord Jehovah hath spoken; who can but prophesy?" — Amos 3:8 (ASV)

Roared.—Compare the imagery of Amos 1:2, and that of Amos 3:4. The voice of the Lord is so audible, so clearly portending the coming judgment, that universal terror inevitably follows. (Compare If these should hold their peace, the stones would cry out.)
