"And Daniel requested of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon: but Daniel was in the gate of the king." — Daniel 2:49 (ASV)

Over the affairs.—Compare Nehemiah 2:16 and Esther 3:9. These holy children, it appears from this verse, were satraps under Daniel’s supervision.

Gate of the king.—Compare Esther 3:2 and following. Daniel was of higher rank than his three friends, and was therefore admitted into the inner part of the palace.
