Charles Ellicott Commentary

Charles Ellicott Commentary
"And when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house (now his windows were open in his chamber toward Jerusalem) and he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime." — Daniel 6:10 (ASV)
Toward Jerusalem. On the custom of praying in this way, see 1 Kings 8:33, 1 Kings 8:35, Psalms 5:7, Psalms 28:2; and on prayer at the intervals mentioned here, see Psalm 55:17. There is nothing ostentatious in Daniel’s prayer. He removed the lattices from his window so that he could see as far as possible in the direction of Jerusalem, and then continued his devotions as if the king’s decree had not been recorded. The prophet must by this time have been nearly ninety years of age, but still his faith is as firm and unwavering as that of his three companions many years before.
