Charles Ellicott Commentary Deuteronomy 23:17

"There shall be no prostitute of the daughters of Israel, neither shall there be a sodomite of the sons of Israel." — Deuteronomy 23:17 (ASV)

Whore and sodomite both seem intended to be understood in the sense of their association with the temples of Baal and Ashtaroth, as persons dedicated to impurity.
