SCRIPTURE

"And all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of Jehovah thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee:" — Deuteronomy 28:45 (ASV)

Till thou be destroyed. —Not exterminated. The root meaning of the word is connected with "smiting," and the idea seems to be to crush. (Compare to 2 Kings 13:7: The king of Syria had destroyed them, and had made them like the dust by threshing.) This kind of destruction is consistent with what follows in Deuteronomy 28:46, and also at the end of Deuteronomy 28:48.
