Charles Ellicott Commentary

Charles Ellicott Commentary
"Do ye thus requite Jehovah, O foolish people and unwise? Is not he thy father that hath bought thee? He hath made thee, and established thee." — Deuteronomy 32:6 (ASV)
It is Jehovah that you repay in this way!
A people foolish and unwise!
Is He not your Father who has gotten you?
He made you and establishes you.
The first line is an exclamatory question. A question and an exclamation have the same name in the Rabbinical writings. “Hath gotten” in the third line is the same expression that Eve used at the birth of Cain, and also occurs in that magnificent saying in the history of Wisdom, Proverbs 8:22, The Lord begat me (as) the beginning of his way.
