SCRIPTURE

"And thou shalt consume all the peoples that Jehovah thy God shall deliver unto thee; thine eye shall not pity them: neither shalt thou serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto thee." — Deuteronomy 7:16 (ASV)

You shall consume (literally, eat up) all the people whom the Lord your God shall deliver to you. —When delivered to Israel, they are delivered for execution; but the time of delivery is in the hand of Jehovah. (Compare to the words of Caleb and Joshua in Numbers 14:9: "They are bread for us: their shadow is departed from them, and the Lord is with us.")
