Charles Ellicott Commentary

Charles Ellicott Commentary
"Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be joyful: for that shall abide with him in his labor [all] the days of his life which God hath given him under the sun." — Ecclesiastes 8:15 (ASV)
The writer returns to the sentiment expressed already (Ecclesiastes 2:24; Ecclesiastes 3:12; Ecclesiastes 3:22; Ecclesiastes 5:17).
Eat, and to drink, and to be merry.— The three words occur together 1 Kings 4:20.
