Charles Ellicott Commentary
"But now in Christ Jesus ye that once were far off are made nigh in the blood of Christ." — Ephesians 2:13 (ASV)
This verse speaks of the restoration of the Gentiles as taking place, first, in Christ Jesus—that is, in virtue of union with Him through all the acts of His mediation; and second, by the blood of Christ—that is, through that special act of mediation, which is emphatically an atonement for sin—such sin as St. Paul had previously declared to be the cause of spiritual deadness. They now had power to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus (Hebrews 10:19).
