"And Jehovah gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have what they asked. And they despoiled the Egyptians." — Exodus 12:36 (ASV)

They lent. —Rather, “they gave.” For the Egyptians neither expected nor wished the Israelites to return.
