"the pillar of cloud by day, and the pillar of fire by night, departed not from before the people." — Exodus 13:22 (ASV)

He took not away. — Compare Exodus 40:38; Numbers 9:16; Numbers 10:34. The cloud probably disappeared at Abel-shittim (Numbers 33:49).
