"And he went out the second day, and, behold, two men of the Hebrews were striving together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?" — Exodus 2:13 (ASV)
The second day —that is, the next day.
The one who did the wrong. —Hebrew, the wicked one. Our version follows the Septuagint.
Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow? —Compare Acts 7:26, where the words of Moses are reported somewhat differently, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another? In either case there was no offensive assumption of authority. But the wrongdoer took offence, nevertheless.
