"And thou shalt say unto him, Jehovah, the God of the Hebrews, hath sent me unto thee, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness: and, behold, hitherto thou hast not hearkened." — Exodus 7:16 (ASV)
The Lord God of the Hebrews. —In Hebrew, Jehovah, the God of the Hebrews. When Moses and Aaron first approached him, Pharaoh had professed not to know who Jehovah was (Exodus 5:2). To prevent him from doing so again, Moses is ordered to give both name and title.
Hath sent me —Rather, sent me.
Let my people go. —Compare Exodus 5:1. The reference is to Moses’ first appearance before Pharaoh, and the message then delivered.
Thou wouldest not hear. —Rather, you have not heard; that is, you have not obeyed.
